The best advice I was ever given came from my Uncle Roger. I was getting ready for boot camp. I was 17, a twig, nervous, excited, and out-of-my-mind scared (although I didn’t let anyone know).
He told me, as I was about to take on one of the biggest challenges of my life, “Take one day at a time”. That was it. Take…one…day…at…a…time. How simple is that?
Though it is simple, it helped me survive. It helped me through boot camp, it helped me through college, through tough times, and it helped me through a deployment. To this day it still helps me.
As I am growing my new business and dealing with the ups and downs of building a business. His words help me remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Today may seem like a day from hell, work isn’t going right, your partner is being a jerk with a bad attitude, your kids just won’t put on their shoes, a project you have been working on for months get scratched, you step on the scale to see nothing changed after weeks of gym time…..Just breathe, remind yourself to “take one day at a time”, and push forward. No matter how hard today seems, remember it’s just a day, only one of many to come.
I hope this provides at least 1% of the comfort and strength that it did and does for me.
