Hello and Welcome to 2018! Each year, as a culture, we view January 1st as a fresh beginning and an opportunity to take big steps in our lives. Some people choose to live healthier lifestyles, to challenge themselves, to change their career, or to get their finances organized.
Having a goal provides clarity on what we want out of life. Pursuit of goals gives us meaning and they literally – make us feel good. Make this year successful and put your goals to paper.
Set yourself up for prosperity by following these four simple steps.
1. Choose sustainable and realistic goals – This is key, a lot of people choose an unattainable goal and this leads to an easy failure. Start small and build up. Instead of losing 20lbs, start with 5lbs.
2. Make benchmarks along your path to stop and review – Review what worked for you and what didn’t, then adjust your practice. Each week is a new week to succeed.
3. Give yourself incentive to see your goal through – Think of a small treat for your hard work. (i.e., an ice cream treat, night out with friends, special dinner, etc.) Choose your happiness and reward yourself for pursuing your goals.
4. Find a friend or partner that has a similar goal and keep each other accountable. Talk about the good, the bad, and recommit yourself. Remember that slip-ups are normal and to keep going. Don’t ever punish yourself.
It takes four to six months to change most habits, don’t become discourage, remind yourself why you want to pursue your goal and keep moving forward until you succeed.
It’s a new year – you can do it.
